The Bedford Gardening Club is managed by a committee of volunteers who meet regularly and are responsible for the effective running of events, activities and supporting members. We hold an AGM where we update members on progress of the club and are always happy to receive suggestions for ways we can support our gardening community here in Bedford.
If you would like to find out more about joining the committee please email Rob bedfordgardeningclub@gmail.com or please do come say hello at one of our events.

2025-26 Committee Members
Rob Drummer, Chair
I grew up on the Isle of Wight, spending summers on the beach and being surrounded by the countryside. From an early stage I was fortunate to be able to spend great amounts of time outdoors. Moving to London as a teenager then gave me a new appreciation for the value that access to nature and gardens have, something that endures to this day.
Then, like many people struggling to navigate the pandemic, I found solace in tending to my small London courtyard garden before moving to Bedford with my husband. From here and with access to a larger garden it was full steam ahead and began (with the generous permission and grace of my parents-in-law) a reimagining of their garden. Now, tending to our own garden in the Castle Quarter which is typical of so many here in Bedford, I have been pushing the limit of how many trees and grasses I can pack in to a modest space.
I am deeply inspired by biodiverse and climate conscious gardening practices and favour a looser, experimental approach to garden design. I am still learning how to edit and not creating several gardens all at once.
Setting up the Bedford Gardening Club in 2024 is something I am immensely proud of and the generous support of the committee and all of our members is deeply humbling.
David Pointer, Treasurer
I come from a family of gardeners which has kindled a lifelong passion. I am interested in why plants grow, leading me to embark on studies with the RHS on plant science to better understand this fascinating field of learning.
I have a particular interest in soil, and its qualities and structure. I am a passionate no-dig gardener, maintaining, where possible, organic principles, and in particular the use of peat free composts.
Tonia Woodcock, Memberships
My love of the outdoors and the beauty of nature began during family walking holidays in the countryside as a child, and gardening has been a natural extension of that enjoyment ever since.
In the past, I often chose plants simply because they caught my eye at the garden centre. Since joining the club, I’ve become more interested in selecting plants that suit my soil and garden aspect, with the aim of gradually creating a relaxed, natural cottage-style garden.
